I would rather have someone I know request a recommendation than to have them write one and then just expect me to reciprocate. That's my 2 cents on the topic.

Thanks for commenting, Drrogera. Would you not care if they didn't reciprocate?

After signing up for LinkedIn, I realized quickly that it felt "hollow" when I send an invite out to someone to connect with me. I started writing out short messages (LinkedIn limit you on how # characters you can type).

If I met someone for the first time, I remind them my name and where we met. If it's someone I've known for a short time or longer, I'll say "it was nice to talk to you. I hope you have a great day!" or something close to that.

I am getting ready to sign up for LinkedIn so this information is helpful. It's always good to reciprocate. Thanks.
