I hate to keep harping on Target, but it looks as if they are STILL not bending to public opinion about their decidedly non-customer friendly "return" policy. I would even go so far as to say the policy is, "let's make it as hard as possible to return ANYTHING policy."
A little background: About a year ago, Target's return policy changed. Now, any purchase over 90 days (receipt or not) cannot be returned. Even if the customer lives far away, or even if they can prove they purchased it through credit card records. Even if the box hasn't been opened. Even if the gift was a duplicate purchased through a wedding gift registry. I could go on, but the folks at ConsumerAffairs.com have allowed Target's own customers to rant on its site for a long time. Just click on over and give it a read. You'll see what I'm talking about.
I still shop at Target for some stuff, but since this return policy has been instituted, I would think twice about registering for wedding gifts there. I am engaged now, so this is a real decision I am making, not just some arbitrary "threat." Where will my dozens of wedding guests go to buy gifts? A place where I could not return unopened duplicates without a receipt? I think not.

I have been a LONG time Target shopper and I would even go so far as to say that I tried to use them exclusively because of their support for our troops.
As of yesterday (May 10,2009), I will no longer shop at target given a choice. Why? - Their absolutely ludicrous return policy.
In a nutshell, i tried to return two non-opened baby gifts we received because we CHOSE TARGET for our registry. They gave me some song and dance about a monetary cap and number of times something could be returned without a receipt. Um...it was a GIFT. AND it was NOTED AS SUCH on my registry.
Oh well - i called the store manager and she apologized basically telling me that yeah, the policy sucks but all she can do is stand behind it. She went on to tell me that its to protect them from the "bad people". Well guess what Target - when you run off all the "GOOD people" because of this - you're going to be left with the bad if you have anything left at all. For what its worth DO NOT REGISTER FOR ANYTHING AT TARGET.

Um, yeah. We registered there for our baby recently and when found out about the return policy, I took everything off and put a note on our registry for our family and friends. It basically said- "We will not be registered here b/c of their terrible return policy." As it turns out, even WITH a registry we got many duplicates at Babies R Us and thankfully we can return them there. SO GLAD we did that. Good Luck Target.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING EXPENSIVE AT TARGET!!!! You will regret it as soon as you walk out of the store. Target is good for your household products and that is all. I bought a blu ray player from them and it has been a nightmare to return this defective product. I will never buy anything from TARGET over $40. I would much rather pay slightly more for peace of mind. They hire such rude and uneducated people to work for their customer service that they are just giving you the fucking run around. You end up just frustrated and wanting to boycott right in front of the store. BEWARE AND DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING AT TARGET THAT CAN BREAK.....AND IF YOU EVER LOSE YOUR RECEIPT....GET READY TO GET FUCKED OVER
